The screw press sludge dewatering machine is a high-efficiency solid-liquid separation device based on the screw extrusion principle. It has been widely used in municipal and industrial wastewater treatment since the 1960s.

Working Principle

The core principle of the screw press is a progressive dewatering process combining screw extrusion and dynamic/static ring filtration, mainly comprising five stages:

  • Flocculation and Mixing: Sludge is thoroughly mixed with a high-molecular-weight flocculant (such as PAM), causing fine particles to agglomerate into larger flocs.
  • Gravity Concentration: The flocculated sludge enters the concentration section, where most of the free water is squeezed out under gravity within the wider gaps between the rings.
  • Screw Extrusion Dewatering: The concentrated sludge is pushed into the dewatering section. As the screw shaft rotates, the gap between the dynamic and static rings gradually narrows, while the back pressure plate creates mechanical resistance, continuously increasing the pressure on the sludge and forcefully squeezing out the internal water.
  • Cake Discharge: The dewatered cake (80%-85% moisture content) is discharged from the discharge port.
  • Self-Cleaning: The relative movement of the dynamic and static rings and the automatic spray system prevent filter clogging, achieving continuous and stable operation.
